Film Review: JUAN OF THE DEAD (2011)

Image
JUAN OF THE DEAD (JUAN DE LOS MUERTOS) (2011) Spain/Cuba 1hr 32mins Director: Alejandro Brugués "Juan of the dead, we kill your loved ones. How can I help you?" Vladi "Man, I won't say it twice. This side of town is kind of weird." Lázaro "I have the feeling that this situation requires a plan of some kind, which I don't have right now." Juan I was holding off putting up my review of JUAN OF THE DEAD (2011) as I originally had plans to put it up the same month as I did SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004) because I had a great idea to do a kind of comparison thing between the two and maybe a couple of others but the recent news of Alexis Díaz de Villegas passing has caused me to rethink this plan. I have decided to post my review now as a tribute to the great actor he was. News of Alexis' death only reached me a few weeks ago but it was reported that he passed on June 24th 2022 from lung cancer aged 55, he will be sorely missed. The Cuban actor had a lon...

He spends his time finding survivors to hand over to the Colonel (Jake Ryan) and the Surgeon General (Nicholas Boshier)  to experiment on in the hope they find a cure. Or at least that is what Rhys believes anyway. Rhys is the twin brother of the Captain from ROAD OF THE DEAD who met a grisly death at the hands of Barry (Jay Gallagher) and his sister Brooke (Bianca Bradey), who coincidently is now a hybrid (half human half zombie) due to the experimentation she endured in ROAD. Barry and Brooke are currently on the run and are wanted as te...

Film Review: THE SADNESS (2021)

Image
THE SADNESS (2021) Taiwan 1hr 39mins  Director: Rob Jabbaz "Did I beat the record?" - Attacker on the train. The eagerly anticipated and much talked about Taiwanese horror/disaster movie THE SADNESS brings something way more brutal to the infection/viral genre than anything Danny Boyle could potentially think up. It follows young couple Jim (Berant Zhu) and Kat (Regina Lei) as they go about their "normal" lives; talking to neighbours, going to work etc. Whilst waiting for Kat, Jim watches a news podcast talking about the recent reports on the current flu pandemic called the Alvin Virus sweeping their region. There are rumours and warnings of possible mutations causing serious symptoms but a lot of these reports were described as fictional by the host due to it being an election year. As Jim takes Kat to the tube station they pass a police crime scene with several bodies covered in bloody sheets. After the couple have left to go about their days, strange things sta...
