Brain Bites News June ’21
Salutations Maggots and Fungi!
Mash is the name, brain eating is indeed the, er, game. Welcome to another installment of Brain Bites!!
I hope you all made the most of Zombie Awareness Month this May. I made sure the inhabitants around my cemetery were certainly aware of me... without causing too much mass hysteria of course. With this pandemic looming over the living it sure has been difficult for people to get together although the local graveyards have sure been filling up. That reminds me, I really must introduce myself to the new neighbours sometime. Do not despair though breathers, it would seem restrictions are lifting and you will soon be able to horde as you once used to. There has been plenty of zombie goings on to keep us all gnashing our teeth and wailing into the night!
I'm sure by now you have all watched Zack Synders eagerly antisipated two and a half hour zombie action epic ARMY OF THE DEAD?! What did you think of it? You will find my thoughts on it this month as it features as the main review! Will I find it worthy of a grand burial or is it best being sent off to the crematorium?! It certainly gained plenty of momentum in its build up with hints of one of Sigfried and Roys beloved white tigers turning zombie. Not to mention Dave Bautista's no show to the recent WWE Wrestlemania event but tweeting that he'd sent some "friends" instead. This publicity stunt royally backfired as a horde of zombies invaded the match between Damien Priest and The Miz. I actually found it really entertaining, especially when they ate The Miz!! However it did not seem to go down too well with the commentators and fans alike. The former citing the stunt as an "embarrassment... even for wrestling".
In other news I am hearing rumours of a second season of BLACK SUMMER coming to Netflix on June 17th. I was a massive fan of season one so am very excited to see how this season pans out.
There is also some rather tasty news coming from the people involved with the unfinished movies of the late, great George A. Romero. His 1973 lost movie THE AMUSEMENT PARK, (nothing to do with zombies but how society treats its elderly) has been found and lovingly restored and will be streaming on Shudder this summer. It has also come to light that the last zombie movie script Romero was working on, TWLIGHT OF THE DEAD, will be brought to life once a suitable director has been found. I wonder who will take up this challenge? For me, I think it would be great to have Tom Savini direct as he did such a great job on NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990) but I have no idea if he would entertain the thought again. Greg Nicotero?? Also a great choice as he worked closely with George as did Tom Savini. He's done amazing things with the CREEPSHOW TV series too. How awesome would it be if they went for Edgar Wright?? I would love that. Who do you think might be worthy of directing the final movie?
My last piece of zombie news for this month is probably the most exciting of all... undead zombiecore thrash masters SEND MORE PARAMEDICS have crawled from their graves once again and announced 3 dates to celebrate 20 years since their ressurrection!! If you don't know who these ghouls are do not worry I plan on doing a piece on this band in plenty of time for these dates. If you can't wait that long please check out some of their videos on YouTube, I know you will not be disappointed to find out their video of BLOOD FEVER plays out in a very cool B movie way. Check them out on Facebook and Instagram too! They have announced 2 dates in Leeds on 29th & 30th Oct which have already sold out and their final date in London falls on Halloween. I booked my tickets as soon as I heard this. Pandemic or not the zombie crew will once again return to rock the fuck out and tear people limb from limb it makes no difference to us!
As mentioned earlier this months reviews will be Zack Synders ARMY OF THE DEAD (2021) and an interesting movie I prised from the cold, dead hands of one of my victims on a recent trip to the supermarket THE CURSE OF HOBBES HOUSE (2020). Two very recent zombie movies but both worthy of an entry into Brain Bites! I do hope you will join me and as always please drop me line if you want any of your favourite movies mentioned, have some zombie news you wish to spread or if you just want to talk about all things undead. I am always here and I don't bite... much!
Until we meet again ...
